Bun Blocks is a calm, fast puzzle game played on an 8 by 8 board. You are given three pieces at a time. Drag each piece onto the board and fit them together so that lines disappear. When you cannot place any of your remaining pieces, the game is over, so the aim is to keep the board open for as long as you can.
The basics
Drag and drop. Pick up a piece from the tray, move it over the board and let go. A faint outline shows where it will land. Pieces cannot be turned, so think about where each shape fits.
Clear lines. A row or a column that is completely filled clears and scores points.
Clear regions. The board is divided into eight blocks of two rows by four columns. Fill one completely and it clears too.
Combos. Clearing on several moves in a row builds a combo that makes each clear worth more. Clearing more than one line with a single piece scores extra.
Perfect clear. If you empty the whole board you get a 100-point bonus.
Undo. You get an undo to take back a move, including the move that ended the game. Games in the daily and the weekly cup allow only one.
Game modes
Classic. Endless play. Chase your best score. Every game uses a fresh random set of pieces.
Daily. The same pieces for every player on a given day, so scores can be compared fairly. Your first attempt counts for the day; later runs are practice. You can post your score to the leaderboard and keep a streak by playing each day.
Weekly cup. A new challenge every week, played on the same pieces for everyone from Monday to Sunday. Your first finished run can be posted to the cup board, and the top ten players at the end of the week win coins.
Journey. A map of levels, each with a goal such as reaching a score or clearing a number of lines. Earn up to three stars on each level.
Zen. No game over. Relax and clear lines at your own pace.
Challenge a friend. After a classic game you can send a link. Your friend plays the exact same pieces and tries to beat your score.
Tips for a better score
Keep the middle of the board open. Build up the edges and finish lines from the sides.
Do not fill a spot that only one shape can use unless you already hold that shape.
Look at all three pieces before you move. The best first move is often the one that makes room for the other two.
Save the undo for a move you really regret, not a small mistake.
Chasing a combo is good, but not at the cost of leaving holes you cannot fill.
Coins, themes and your progress
You earn coins for opening the game each day, for finishing the daily, for completing the weekly challenge and for reaching score milestones. Coins buy extra undos and colour themes. Themes only change how the game looks. Some themes appear for a few weeks around holidays and seasons. None of this changes the pieces you are given or how scores are counted.
